Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and captain Brandon Petersen has responded after Hugo Broos revealed he was part of his preliminary plans for Bafana Bafana.
Speaking during the squad announcement for the international fixture against Panama, Broos confirmed that Petersen had initially been included in his plans but was forced out due to injury before the final squad selection.
Instead, the Belgian tactician opted for Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, while Orlando Pirates shot-stopper Sipho Chaine was also left out.
Despite the setback, Petersen remains optimistic about his national team prospects.

“It’s disappointing, but only for that moment. With the coach saying that, for me it’s an opportunity. I see it as an opportunity,” said Petersen as per iDiski Times.
“In order for me to be there, I have to perform well at club level. There are six games to go, and that’s where my focus is.”
The 31-year-old emphasised that consistent performances are the only route into the national setup. Petersen has done well to warrant a Bafana Bafana mention but there are also other top keepers that he has to compete with.
“For me, there’s no other way you can be selected without performing at your club,” said the Chiefs captain.
“That’s where my focus is. I need to concentrate on finishing these last six games strongly. Whatever happens, happens, God is in control.”
Petersen has been one of Chiefs’ standout performers this season, keeping 13 clean sheets in 20 appearances and playing a key role in stabilising the team’s defence.
On several occasions, he has produced crucial saves to rescue his side.
With Ronwen Williams widely regarded as Bafana Bafana’s first-choice goalkeeper heading into the FIFA World Cup, Petersen will have to battle for one of the remaining spots among a competitive group of keepers.
