Synopsis
Bode Lantang is a mental hospital founded in 1923 in Chuning City. It once had wide courtyards and castle-like western-style buildings, but by the time the story begins, it has long since fallen into disrepair, with the mad still wandering its halls.
After the Japanese surrender, Chuning City enters a brief period of power chaos. Traitors, secret agents, police, gendarmes, and officials sent to take over the city arrive one after another as if by fate. They all appear perfectly normal—but the story that follows is utter madness.
A doctor at the hospital—or more precisely, an apprentice to a former doctor—is determined to protect the hospital and fight against all the forces trying to take it over. All he has is his understanding of human greed, fear, and madness. The means at his disposal are no more than those of any ordinary doctor. But he has a strong will and belief. He has the help of others at the hospital. And he has the madmen—each with their own pasts. Sometimes, they turn out to be more sane than the so-called sane people.
