Doormat No More is a Chinese short drama starring Li Shangyu and Li Yixuan.
After giving his entire pension to help his son pay the mortgage, retiree Lin Jianguo (Eric Jackson) is treated like a free babysitter and humiliated by his daughter-in-law over a 4-yuan pack of cigarettes. Retiree Lin Jianguo (Eric Jackson) hands over his entire 8,000-yuan monthly pension to help his son pay the mortgage, only to end up living like an unpaid babysitter and housekeeper. On his birthday, he uses a family payment account to buy a 4-yuan pack of cigarettes, but his daughter-in-law publicly flips the table and humiliates him over it. Worse still, his own son not only refuses to defend him, but even complains that Lin Jianguo is nowhere near as considerate as his father-in-law.
Completely heartbroken, Lin Jianguo packs his bags, takes the property ownership certificate, and leaves the house for good. Ten days later, his daughter-in-law comes crying and begging him to return — not because she misses him, but because she finally discovers that the house is actually in his name.
From that moment on, Lin Jianguo refuses to be treated as a free servant ever again. Using wisdom and patience, he battles wits with his daughter-in-law, gradually reclaiming his dignity and finally enjoying the peaceful retirement life he deserves.
