A massive drug manufacturing facility has been dismantled in Swartruggens, North West, following a high-stakes tactical intervention.
The operation, led by National Crime Intelligence and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), uncovered a laboratory worth millions of rand.
The raid has dealt a significant blow to the production of illicit substances in the region.
The suspects represent a broad international network. Among those detained are five Mexican nationals Fabian Astorga, Jesus Alonso, Medina Astorga, Luis Alberto Ramirez Rios, and Jose Andres Medina along with Jacquelin Lopez Madrid.
The group also includes Mozambican nationals Ismael Afiado Massingue and Lourenco Constantino Cumbane, Zimbabwean Tobias Soyani, and South Africans Tyron John Schutte, Kyle Schutte, and Vusi Amos Mkambi.
All eleven suspects have been remanded in custody as police continue their forensic and criminal investigations.
The successful dismantling of the laboratory was the result of long-term intelligence gathering by organised crime units.
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains active as they work to map the full extent of the syndicate’s distribution network.
