Eskom to implement 9-hour power outage in Gauteng on Tuesday

Residents in Pretoria East will experience a scheduled electricity interruption this week as Eskom carries out critical maintenance on its distribution network. The power utility confirmed that the planned outage will take place on Tuesday, 28 April, lasting from 9:00 until 18:00.

The maintenance forms part of Eskom’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure reliability and prevent unexpected breakdowns that could result in longer, unplanned outages.

Eskom: Areas set to be affected

Eskom stated that several residential estates and surrounding areas will be impacted during the nine-hour interruption. These include Mooikloof Park, Mooikloof Heights, Mooikloof Glen, Akasia, Geelhout, Jakaranda, and The Hills.

According to the utility, “the outage will affect customers in Mooikloof Park, Mooikloof Heights, Mooikloof Glen, Akasia, Geelhout, Jakaranda, and The Hills on Tuesday 28 April from 9:00 to 18:00.” Residents in these areas should prepare for the temporary loss of electricity and make necessary arrangements in advance.

Maintenance aimed at improving reliability

Eskom emphasised that the interruption is necessary to carry out essential upgrades and repairs on the distribution network.

“The interruption in electricity supply is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines,” the utility explained.

Such maintenance work plays a key role in strengthening the grid and reducing the likelihood of unexpected failures. While the scheduled outage may cause short-term inconvenience, Eskom maintains that it will contribute to improved service delivery in the long run.

The power utility also noted that unforeseen circumstances could affect the schedule. If issues arise, the maintenance “may not proceed as communicated,” potentially leading to changes in timing.

Safety advisory to residents

Eskom urged residents to exercise caution during the outage period. The utility warned that all electrical appliances should be treated as live at all times to avoid accidents or damage when power is restored.

“In the interest of safety, customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power supply outage,” Eskom said.

The utility also expressed appreciation for public cooperation and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
