The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has suspended its head of content, Lala Tuku, amid the ongoing payment crisis linked to the SABC 2 telenovela Pimville.

According to media reports, Tuku, along with several other individuals, has been suspended pending internal investigations related to the production.

The internal investigation will determine whether proper controls and intervention measures were followed as the crisis escalated.

The Pimville production has come under scrutiny following allegations that cast members, crew and service providers attached to the telenovela have not received payment for several months.

Earlier this week, actor and director Kagiso Modupe publicly distanced himself from the controversy, revealing that he, too, had allegedly not been paid for his role as head director on the production.

Meanwhile, the SABC has previously stated that it honoured its contractual obligations to the production company, while alleging that Bakwena Productions breached contractual terms.
