Netflix has unveiled the teaser for its upcoming supernovela, The Polygamist, adapted from Sue Nyathi’s acclaimed novel.
Produced by Stained Glass Productions, the 22-episode series is set to premiere on 12 June, with standout performances from Gugu Gumede and S’dumo Mtshali, who take on the lead roles of Joyce and Jonasi Gomora.
The story follows Jonasi Gomora, a self-made CEO who builds a powerful business empire while juggling a complicated personal life rooted in polygamy.
However, as his success grows, so do the cracks in his relationships, with the wives and mistresses in his life forcing him to confront the man behind the power.
Packed with drama, ambition and emotional tension, The Polygamist promises to pull viewers into a world where love, loyalty and betrayal collide in unexpected ways.
The series arrives at a time when South African audiences remain deeply engaged in conversations around polygamy, themes that have been widely explored in popular reality shows like Uthando Nes’Thembu, which offers a real-life glimpse into the complexities of polygamous marriages.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time S’dumo has portrayed a polygamist. In the now-ended telenovela Isibaya, he played Sibusiso, who was forced to take a second wife when his first wife, Thandeka (Nomzamo Mbatha), could not bear children.
He also attempted to take a second wife in the popular drama My Brother’s Keeper.
