South Africans do not need to wait for the upcoming voter registration weekend to confirm their details on the voters’ roll ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has confirmed.
The commission is encouraging eligible voters to use its online platform to verify and update their registration information, including residential addresses, to ensure they are correctly assigned to voting stations.
Online registration already open
While the first voter registration weekend is set for 20-21 June 2026, the IEC says voters can already access its online services at: https://registertovote.elections.org.za/
Through the portal, citizens can:
- Check voter registration status
- Update residential details
- Apply for a special vote
- Track special vote applications

Call for participation
IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya said the commission’s message – “Get Up. Show Up. Vote” – is aimed at encouraging broader participation, particularly among young voters.
The IEC launched the new election logo and tagline on 1 April 2026, describing it as part of its readiness preparations for the upcoming polls.
Moepya said the campaign is intended to promote civic engagement and a sense of shared responsibility in strengthening democracy.
Focus on collaboration and readiness
The IEC has called on political parties, government institutions and civil society organisations to work together to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.
The commission says collaboration is essential to maintaining public confidence and ensuring efficient administration of the vote.
Election date still to be announced
The date for the 2026 Local Government Elections has not yet been officially announced by government, but preparations are already underway across electoral structures.
