A Thai influencer, “Bird Wan Wang Wang”, has come under fire after his prank video from the Phra Pradaeng Songkran celebrations in Samut Prakan went viral on April 26, showing him smearing what appeared to be tile grout mixed with water on festivalgoers.

In the video, the influencer appears to pour tile grout powder into a plastic container and mix it with water. He then uses the mixture to smear on other Songkran participants, presenting it as if it were traditional din sor pong powder. The post included the caption: “Is this how they play powder in Phra Pradaeng?”

Netizens criticised his behaviour, saying that he showed poor judgment and ignored the risk of using a product that appeared to be unsafe for skin contact.

Yesterday, April 27, the influencer posted a response to address the backlash. He stated that the substance shown was actually tapioca flour, not tile grout as many believed. He also referred to social media and news coverage, suggesting they were amplifying the issue for attention.

Bird then opened a bag he claimed contained flour, mixed it with water in a glass, and drank it to show it was harmless. He said he was mature enough to know better and would not use anything dangerous on others.

Despite the clarification, criticism continued, with many online users saying that the response lacked accountability and could still lead to misunderstanding or imitation.

The same day, the Jorakay brand responded through the Drama-addict page, saying it had contacted the channel owner to seek removal of the clip.

“The company has coordinated with the relevant channel owner to request cooperation in removing the content from all social media platforms, as it involves incorrect use of the product and may pose safety risks to consumers and the public.”

It added that consumers should use products according to instructions and prioritise safety, and that it would continue monitoring the situation and take appropriate action.

The case continued to gain attention after Police Major General Chatphanthakan Klaikhlueang, deputy commissioner of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, commented on the incident.

He urged influencers and public figures to consider the impact of their content on the public, particularly their Gen Z audiences. He also questioned the value of “trash content” and encouraged creators to produce more informative and constructive content instead.

Regarding legal action, Chatphanthakan said that if violations are found under the Computer Crime Act, PDPA law, NBTC regulations, or the Criminal Code, including minor offences related to physical contact during powder application, those involved could be summoned for questioning and face legal proceedings.

He also warned Bird directly that even if the substance was fake, public perception may differ and could lead to risky imitation.

DailyNews reported that the officer added that cases would be treated more seriously if complaints were filed by the affected individuals.

In a separate influencer story, a staged phone theft video on a BTS Skytrain has drawn criticism online after a Thai content creator posted the clip to social media. Online response centred on how such content might affect public perception of safety in Thailand.
