VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — A 19-year-old senior high school student was among the hundreds of residents who patiently lined up for voter registration ahead of the May 18 deadline in preparation for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in November this year.

Joseph Carl Padro said he wanted to become a registered voter to exercise his right to suffrage, believing that his vote could help elect leaders who would properly represent and govern the youth sector.

To accommodate the influx of applicants, the Commission on Elections in Valencia City conducted a three-day voter registration activity at the city gymnasium beginning Thursday.

COMELEC Valencia election officer Mark Anthony Raperap encouraged voters to take advantage of the remaining registration days, especially those with outdated or incorrect voter information.

Applicants who discovered errors in the spelling of their names and other personal details may still request corrections during the registration period.

The Commission also reminded voters who transferred residence that they only need to apply for the transfer of their registration records at the COMELEC office in the area where they currently reside.

Meanwhile, voters with deactivated records, particularly those who failed to vote in two consecutive elections, were advised to apply for reactivation.

Ampie Galagnara, an employee of a government-owned and controlled corporation, said she applied for the activation of her voter status after failing to vote in the past two elections due to personal circumstances.

She said exercising the right to vote remains important in helping shape the future of the country. /jpv
