Eight people have been confirmed dead following a serious bus accident near Witvlag in Limpopo.
The vehicle, which was transporting 61 passengers from Malawi to Gauteng, reportedly suffered a mechanical failure late last night.
Emergency services believe several victims may still be trapped within the wreckage.
To facilitate the recovery of the trailer and allow the SAPS Dog Unit to search for further remains, the N1 will be temporarily closed at 10:00.
While the road currently remains open, a stationary truck near the site is causing additional congestion.
Traffic officers are on-site directing vehicles, but the Limpopo Department of Transport has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and reduce speed when approaching the area.
Officials have stressed that the secondary closure is essential for a thorough investigation and the dignified recovery of the deceased.
