The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed the successful disbursement of R621 million in allowances to 203,653 TVET students.
This rollout aligns with the organisation’s commitment to providing stable financial support for higher education, ensuring that teaching and learning remain uninterrupted across the sector.
However, during a routine verification process, NSFAS identified 12,000 students who were ineligible for this specific payment cycle.
These omissions were attributed to data exchange inconsistencies between individual colleges and the scheme’s central systems. NSFAS is currently working alongside these institutions to correct the records, with a view to initiating supplementary payments once the data is validated.
To resolve these issues, regional working sessions have commenced, and specialist teams are being deployed to provinces to assist college staff with data management.
The scheme has urged institutions to expedite their internal reviews to ensure all eligible students are captured in the next disbursement window.
NSFAS remains focused on improving its collaboration with colleges to prevent future delays.
By strengthening these data-sharing protocols, the scheme aims to uphold its principles of accountability and student-centred service, thanking stakeholders for their patience while the remaining discrepancies are resolved.
